Makeup Mondays...Cream Shadows...

Powder eye shadows are a thing of the past...they drop and make a mess, gather in the eye crease and don't last or hold intense colour well.

The solution? Cream eye shadows.

International MUA's have been in on this trend for years and it's slowly filtering into our neck of the woods...thank goodness. The colours are intense, they blend well (if you work very quickly), they dry and last all day without any touch ups! Since using this product and application, I can now see the difference in photos and can tell powder eye shadow from a mile away.

You only require a very small amount of product and you can even apply a powder shadow on top to intensify the colour or set the look even further. Cream shadows are relatively waterproof but most definitely sweat-proof. They are quick to apply and easy to blend...but they dry quickly, so you need to work fast. Very fast. Given that fact, it has knocked off crucial minutes when doing makeup for a job...and yet it still looks incredible!

Here are some colours I've invested in:

 MAC Groundwork {great for contouring and natural looks}

Bobbi Brown Chrome Patina {very metallic grey with a lot of shimmer}

 Benefit Stiletto {maroon-purple}

MAC Base Study {light shimmer to highlight lid or inner corner of eye}

 MAC Blackground {standard black for smokey eye}

MAC Indianwood {gold shimmer}

Bobbi Brown Bone {matt off-white great for 60's look}

Bobbi Brown Steel {matt brown-grey}

MAC 217 brush {great for application and blending. Be sure to clean in between uses (if you're not fast enough) as the product dries very quickly and can make the brush dense & heavy which affects application}

I've actually gone "halvies" with another local MUA so that we could test out the colours without spending a fortune. Also, it's unlikely we'll go through the entire pot before it starts to dry, so this is the most cost-effective and kit efficient way to purchase.

The MAC pot paints are more cost effective given the price / quantity ratio however their colours are limited. The Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Creme Shadows have more of a colour range including metallics and they have a creamier texture. So it depends on what you're looking for...

I suggest going shopping with a friend, choose some colours together and share them out. (Woolworths has a set of 3 empty plastics jars in their beauty/travel section which work well if you want to de-pot some cream shadow)

Let me tell you, this has revolutionized my professional makeup routine!

PS: I guess there will always be a time and place for powder eye shadows...but if you (as an individual or client) want a look that needs to last a 16 hour shoot...this is what you're looking for...and I'd be happy to apply it for you *cheeky grin*
