So hot right now...Lengths & Layers...

Winter is amazing. I have converted from a full blown summer girl to a winter chill lover! Trench coats, (p)leather jackets, boots and scarves, layered with cardigans, tunics and stockings...it makes me happy.

At the moment, I live vicariously through polyvore and international lookbook because Durban doesn't have a winter...we have varying degrees of summer.

I've done it a little differently this time...pulling individual items which are big this season...and mixing them up to create different looks...

So many options! Pretty sure if I could manage with only those clothes for winter!

So hot right now...Trousers...

I don't believe it's the easiest look to pull off given the different curves of women, but if you can find the right style for your shape, it is a clean and structured look.

My work...Blue Crush 2...

I mentioned before that I was one of the makeup assistants for Blue Crush 2 while they were filming in KZN. It was an incredible experience and I'm happy to announce that the trailer has finally been released!

It was so amazing working with these women...strong...funny...professional! It was also nice to work with some of the local SA surfers on set especially  after working alongside them in the surf fashion industry for so long.

Working on movies is so incredible and I learnt so much!

So hot right now...tailored shorts...

Cut off, high waisted denim shorts are a thing of the past...thank goodness. They are being replaced by their much trendier and figure-friendlier tailored shorts. Found in a variety of styles, there's one out there waiting for you!

Great for summer with a tank or winter with tights (not leggings) and lace up booties.

Makeup Mondays...Brushes...

There's a lot of talk about makeup brushes and which are the best for whatever purpose. The fact of the matter is that if you limit yourself to one type of application per brush...you're wasting your time and money. If used correctly, most brushes can be used for multiple purposes...it just depends on your preference and technique.

I stumbled across an article on brushes by Emmy award winning Kevin James Bennett...renowned MUA and creator of "In my Kit"...something I mentioned previously on the facebook page. He's a man after my own heart with a website, blog, facebook, twitter and youtube (the only thing I refuse to do...insecurities and all!) and he is all about sharing and teaching. If you're serious about being a MUA, have a look through his various platforms.

In his article, Kevin defines brush types and compositions as well as the various uses. It's a great read because it's always nice to have some theory to further enhance the practical work.

Once you've done that, watch these vids from my faves for even more insider scoop on brushes....

Due to limited selection, I have MAC, Smashbox and Bobbie Brown brushes in my kit...Smashbox are my favourite by a long shot but to be fair, here are a few brushes I would recommend to individuals and professionals alike.

MAC 208 - Angled brush - Use for eyeliner (chuck the liquid liner and use a pot paint), eyebrows and lipstick

MAC 187 - Due Fibre brush (or stippling brush) - Use for foundation (not on dry skin!), cream blush or loose powder to set.

MAC 217 - Blending brush - Use for cream eye shadows and concealer. It covers a large area so not ideal for small eyes.

MAC 219 - Pencil brush - The ultimate smudge brush for smudging eyeliner and shadow under the eyes, highlighting and cream shadows on small eyes.

Smashbox 13 - Foundation brush - Foundation, cream blush and contouring with concealer or foundation.

Smashbox 15 - Definer brush - Eye crease and smokey eye (also good for blending on small eyes)

Smashbox 10 - Crease brush - Good for blending...a bit big for creases, I find, as it gets shadow everywhere.

Smashbox 7 - Tapered shadow brush - All over eye shadow and powdering on selected areas (eyes, nose etc for dry skin)

Professional brushes are expensive but cheaper options can be found. If you use your brushes wisely and mix it up a little, they'll last and you'll make them worth every penny!
